Keeping Oil in Your Lamp
🕯️ Keeping Oil in Your Lamp: Staying Ready in a Waiting World
Have you ever found yourself running on empty—physically, emotionally, or spiritually?
Jesus told a powerful story in Matthew 25 that still echoes today: the Parable of the Ten Virgins. In this story, ten women are waiting for the bridegroom to arrive. Five of them were wise and brought extra oil for their lamps. The other five were foolish and brought none. When the bridegroom came unexpectedly, only the ones who were prepared could go with him. The others were left outside.
This story isn’t just about a wedding—it’s about readiness, faithfulness, and spiritual vigilance.
🌿 What Does It Mean to Keep Oil in Your Lamp?
Oil often symbolizes the Holy Spirit, anointing, or God's presence throughout Scripture. To keep oil in your lamp means staying connected to God, nurturing your faith, and staying prepared for what He may ask of you—today, tomorrow, or years from now.
It’s about not waiting until the last moment to get right with God, seek His will, or walk in obedience.
> “But the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.”
– Matthew 25:4 (ESV)
🔥 Signs Your Lamp May Be Running Low
You’re going through the motions but feeling spiritually dry
You’re relying on yesterday’s faith for today’s challenges
You’re living distracted, always “too busy” to pray or worship
You sense God calling, but you keep saying, “Maybe later”
Friend, these are all signs it’s time to refill.
💧How to Refill the Oil
1. Daily Communion with God – Make time to pray, not out of obligation, but out of desire to know Him more.
2. Soak in the Word – Scripture fuels your spirit. Read even when you don’t feel like it. The Word is alive.
3. Worship Consistently – Worship shifts your focus from your lack to His abundance.
4. Stay in Community – Surround yourself with others who keep their lamps full. Faith is contagious.
5. Walk in Obedience – Every act of obedience adds to your oil. Little yeses lead to big readiness.
⏳ Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
The foolish virgins weren’t bad people—they were just unprepared. Life can change in a moment. A door can open or close unexpectedly. Jesus is coming back, and we don’t know when. But even more urgently, your next assignment, divine opportunity, or breakthrough might be around the corner.
Will you be ready when He calls?
