Add For Me and My House, We Will Serve the Lord
Growing up, this is one of the scriptures that we had hanging on the wall. Ever since my dad got saved, he and my mom wanted to make sure it's kids served the Lord in some capacity. I am thankful for their dedication to growing spiritually and making sure that we all had a relationship with Jesus.
Today, I am privileged to be serving in the church, as well as helping to teach others to grow their own personal relationship with Jesus through spiritual formation like: spending time in silent reflection, prayer, reading the word, fellowship and praise and worship.
I pray that I continue to serve Him more and more daily and that out relationship continues to grow.

As for Me and My House, We Will Serve the LordIn Joshua 24:15, we find one of the most well-known declarations of faith in Scripture:
> “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua spoke these words at a pivotal moment in Israel’s history. After years of wandering in the wilderness and then finally conquering the Promised Land, the people were faced with a choice: would they serve the gods of the nations around them, or would they remain faithful to the one true God who had delivered them? Joshua boldly set the tone for his family and community by declaring his loyalty to the Lord.
A Personal Decision
Joshua’s statement is powerful because it begins with the personal: “As for me…” Serving God begins with individual commitment. No one can make this choice for us—our parents, our spouse, our pastor, or our friends. It starts in our own heart, with a willingness to put God first above all else.
A Household Commitment
But Joshua doesn’t stop with himself. He extends this decision to his household: “…and my house…” In the ancient world, a household meant not only immediate family, but extended relatives, servants, and those under one’s roof. Joshua was saying, “Everyone connected to me will know that our home is dedicated to the Lord.”
In today’s world, this principle still matters. Our homes are meant to be places where faith is lived out daily—in how we speak, how we love, how we forgive, and how we prioritize God. A godly household doesn’t happen by accident; it’s built through prayer, teaching, and example.
A Bold Stand in a Confused World
Joshua made this declaration in the midst of cultural pressure. The nations around Israel worshiped false gods and lived by their own standards. Likewise, we live in a time when many voices compete for our loyalty. It takes courage to stand up and say, “No matter what others choose, my family and I will serve the Lord.”
Living Out This Commitment
So, what does it mean for us to live this out today?
Set the spiritual tone at home. Pray together, read Scripture, and let faith be more than just a Sunday activity.
Lead by example. Children, family, and even friends learn more by watching how we live than by what we say.
Keep Christ at the center. Build your family rhythms around honoring God—in decisions, in celebrations, in trials, and in daily life.
Reflection Questions
1. What does it mean for you personally to declare, “As for me…”?
2. How can you set the tone in your home to reflect service to the Lord?
3. What challenges make it difficult to live out this commitment, and how can you overcome them with God’s help?
A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of family and for calling us to serve You wholeheartedly. Help me to make a personal commitment each day to put You first. Guide me in leading my home with love, faith, and integrity so that our household reflects Your presence. May our lives be a testimony that we serve the Lord, no matter what the world chooses. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
