Belief in Action

I often find myself thinking of this topic, of what does really look like to truly believe and alhave faith. If you are like me and struggle often with trials and tribulations, and wonder where God is in the middle of this Big mess; I want to encourage you to abandon all your reliance on your own understanding and really trust him. It is not easy totally trusting in a world that consistently fails us. Whether you are facing financial troubles, marital issues, health problems, struggling with suicide, depression, anxiety, loneliness, or unanswered prayers? Just lean on him and trust him.
Get in his word, read about his promises, and build that genuine relationship with him.
We may not always have the answers to everything we struggle to understand, but that is ok. He has the answers and if and when he chooses to answer those questions, it will be ok.

What It Means to Truly Believe and Have Faith

Faith is a word that gets used often in Christian circles, yet it is also one of the most misunderstood. Many equate faith with wishful thinking, blind optimism, or simply agreeing with religious ideas. But biblically speaking, to truly believe and have faith goes much deeper—it is about trust, surrender, and living in alignment with God’s promises.

Belief: More Than Just Agreement

The Bible says, “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!” (James 2:19, ESV). This verse reminds us that belief is not simply acknowledging God’s existence. Demons believe in God’s reality, but they do not submit to Him.

To believe in the biblical sense means to place confidence in who God is and what He has said. It is a heart-level acceptance that transforms how we live, not just a mental nod of agreement.

Faith: Trust in Action

Faith is belief put into motion. Hebrews 11:1 defines it this way: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Faith is trusting God even when:

Circumstances don’t make sense.

Prayers feel unanswered.

The future looks uncertain.

Faith is what Noah had when he built an ark in a dry land. Faith is what Abraham had when he left his home, not knowing where God was leading. Faith is what Peter showed when he stepped out of the boat to walk on water.

It is not passive—it is active trust that leads us to obey, even when we cannot see the outcome.

The Relationship Between Belief and Faith

Belief is the foundation. Faith is the action that grows from that belief. If belief says, “I know this chair can hold me,” faith is sitting in the chair and resting your full weight on it.

True belief and faith go hand in hand:

Belief shapes what we know.

Faith reveals what we trust.

Together, they transform how we live.

Living Out True Faith

To truly believe and have faith means:

Trusting God’s Word even when culture says otherwise.

Relying on His promises even when life feels shaky.

Walking in obedience even when it costs us something.

It is not perfection, but persistence. It is not never doubting, but choosing to lean on God even in the middle of doubt.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I see belief as simply agreeing with truths, or am I allowing it to shape my choices?

2. In what areas of my life is God asking me to put my faith into action?

3. How can I take one practical step of trust today?

A Prayer for Faith

Lord, increase my faith. Help me move beyond head knowledge into heart trust. Teach me to lean on Your promises when I cannot see the way ahead. Strengthen me to walk in obedience, and let my life reflect the fullness of what it means to truly believe in You. Amen.
