Lord, Have Your Way – A Song of Surrender and Trust

Lord, Have Your Way – A Song of Surrender and Trust

(Inspired by Katy Nichole’s “Lord Have Your Way”)

Have you ever woken up to a song playing in your spirit? I have on several occasions, and the Lord woke me up with this particular song, and it has been on repeat in my mind throughout my chores this morning.

I recently had some stressful things go on in my life, and it bothered me because it was things that I could not control. I had to talk with a few people to talk through the process, as well as surrender the situations to God.

I have always found my worth in serving others, but that tends to get out of hand. I have had to surrender my time and continue to surrender my control on my life to God. It is not an easy path, and I have lots of moments of not understanding why people say and do the things they do to me and the people I love. I have had to put in boundaries for things that try and steal my time with God, and I am learning to not feel responsible for how others react when I say no.

Today, my prayer for you is that you and I learn to truly, truly, truly surrender to God and say, "Lord, have your way with me." What will that look like, if we truly surrender to him in every way? It may be scary to feel like we are losing control of things, but who better to handle everything than God.

When Your Way Meets My Will

There comes a moment in life when we realize — we don’t have it all figured out. We’ve tried to control outcomes, plan every step, and hold everything together. But as Katy Nichole’s lyrics remind us:

“One thing I have found, I rise when I lay it down.”

That’s the paradox of faith — when we surrender, we rise. When we release control, we find peace. Surrender is not a sign of weakness; it’s an invitation to divine strength.

Surrender as Strength

Surrender isn’t giving up; it’s giving over.

“Lord, have Your way in me. Lord, have Your way in my heart, in my soul, in my mind, in my life.”

When we pray those words, we are inviting God into every corner of our being. We are saying, “God, You know what’s best for me — even when I don’t.” It’s choosing to trust the One whose plans are better, whose timing is perfect, and whose ways are higher than ours.

Living in the Overflow of Grace

The song paints a picture of abundant mercy:

“Your blessings fall on me like rain on a garden.
I’ll sink in an ocean of grace.
How kind are Your mercies, how faithful Your heart is.
You hold my tomorrow today.”

When we let God have His way, we experience His overflowing goodness. His grace doesn’t trickle — it pours. It nourishes the dry places of our hearts and grows beauty out of brokenness.

Isaiah 55:10–11 says,

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven… so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty.”

God’s grace works the same way — it always produces life.

Kingdom Come, Will Be Done

“Lord, let Your kingdom come.
Lord, let Your will be done.
Jesus, You’re all I want.
Jesus, You’re more than enough.”

This echoes the Lord’s Prayer — a daily posture of humility:

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

When we surrender our will to His, we step into His divine purpose. We’re no longer driven by self, but by Spirit.

Reflection Questions

  1. What areas of my life am I still trying to control instead of surrendering to God?

  2. How has God shown His faithfulness when I’ve let go of my plans?

  3. What does it mean for me personally to say, “Lord, have Your way in my heart, soul, mind, and life”?

  4. Where do I see God’s grace raining down in my life right now?

  5. How can I align my daily choices with God’s will rather than my own desires?

A Short Prayer

Lord, have Your way in me.
In the moments when I’m holding too tightly, help me to release my grip.
When fear rises, remind me of Your faithfulness.
Let Your grace rain on my heart like a garden thirsty for life.
I trust that Your plans are better, Your timing is perfect, and Your ways are good.
In my heart, in my soul, in my mind, and in my life — Lord, have Your way.
Amen.
